Please comment on your thoughts, feelings, suggestions for the future and overall impressions of this years' Reindeer Games. Please add how you felt organizing and being marked on a process exam with an event as the product.
Overall, I think the reindeer games went well this year, my group was a little shaky admittedly on the rules, so I think for future the there should be more focus on the possible outcomes of a game. IE, things you never really thought of to come up, therefore never really bothered making a rule for = not so slick looking/functioning. Organizing went well in my opinion and as for being marked on the exam by this, I think it's a good idea. Sort of a real life example of leadership, you wouldn't get the same effect on paper sitting in a classroom. -Rob
From what I saw, Reindeer Games went pretty good this year! I didn't have the chance to see all the groups, but the one's I did see seemed to pull everything off almost flawlessly.
I agree with what Robin said about coming up with rules for every situation. In our group, Elf Bowling, we said people could use 2 or 3 scooter-boards. We didn't really specify how they had to be used so one group, possibly Dave's, decided not to connect them all giving them a better chance of knocking them all down. I didn't really think of something like that happening so it didn't come up in the planning stage.
It was kinda lame that two groups didn't show up for the first day. There wasn't really too much competition from all the groups in Elf Bowling, since they all advanced regardless of their score.
But overall I think that this years Reindeer Games were a huge success!
i agree with my 2 esteemed colleagues!! Reindeer games was a great success! From what I saw of the teams, there was intense competition, fierce rivalry, solid teamwork, and the upmost respect for their opponents. All the work that we put in these last few weeks was rewarded by the pure atmosphere from the lively crowd to the competing competitors. As Crawf said in class, the first group was indeed the guinea pig, but that guinea pig survived and passed the tests with flying colours. From there I think we all saw that this could indeed be great and that's exactly what we made it. My group in particular (The obstacle course) was fantastic. Everyone participated and everyone had different ideas and lots of imput. Communication is always key in team work and I feel we did an amazing job. The good thing I found about our group was that since we had an obstacle course to build, everyones ideas and creativity could be placed all around the track. The final obstacle course was a product of trial and error (with the help of the gym class) creativity. The fact that this project reflected some of our exam mark makes me very happy and content. Not just for myself but for my whole group. And while we're on the subject, not just my whole group but the whole class. Who surpassed my expectations of pushing the envelope when it came to creativity and fun for all ages in a school environment. marking this on the exam is a great idea and I suggest this idea be implemented more into a wider variety of courses and options. -Quincy
Sup yo? I think the reindeer games went pretty well this year. In my opinion though they were missing that sense of competition that we had last year that brought out the crowds and to this day still brings about arguements.
The participation just wasn't as great this year. Whether it was because we started it too late or whatever other reason you may think of, we just didn't have the amount of people we should have. I know as Joey metioned in the first game 2 teams didn't even show up which made the event kind of pointless.
Individually the games went well this year. It was just all-in-all it was a little disappointing from last year considering the lack of trash talk and whatnot leading into and throughout the games that made them so much more exciting. I believe everything we could control though, went pretty well. Except of course for that bullshi* (put a star there for you Crawford) call Mr. Kirk and his group made.
I think marking this as part of the exam is an excellent idea because real-life leadership should really have a big impact on our mark, rather than trying to demonstrate it on paper somehow as you do in other classes. Also I believe it gave the reindeer games more importance rather than being just another thing we did as a class, it was actually worth a fair bit to our mark.
Regards, Mr. Dylan A. Ryan
Oh also, just to inform you the Lads in Plaid (sup) will return next year. Bigger, stronger, faster, with no competition and will win any event thrown at us.
I didn't get to see how last year's reindeer games went at all. I was VERY happy to be involved in the thought process of the games. Definitely something that should be meant to experience. My group was involved in the "Rockin' around the christmas tree" game. It was very entertaining to see groups slide all over the gym floor as they threw stuff into the baskets. Also getting teacher's involved into these games was interesting as well. Not all teacher's could handle the game... eh? Crawford? aha. Overall it was a ton of fun and probably made the month of December.
In my opinion I belive that the 2nd annual reindeer games went very well as the others said the rules were alittle wackey but theirs always room for improvment in next years games. Some advice I would give to the people running the games next year would be to expect the unexpected and be creative with you ideas. Overall I belive that the games were a huge success!! I am deffentelly looking foward to seeing what the physed 12 leadership class will come up with for the reindeer games next year.
I almost forgot to say that I really like the fact that the reindeer games was a part of our exam and like Ian said this method should be used in a wider varity of courses before I go I'd just like to give a shout out to the entire class saying Good job everyone we deffentely put the "Team" in teamwork and I think that all the skills we have learned and practied up until now have payed of and the great success of the 2009 reindeer games shows this.
-Scott Crowell
P.S Merry Cristmas every one I'll see y'all in the new year!!! Yeahhhh 1210 woot!!
Well, I'd first like to make my mark by backing up my groups call on the Lads In Plaid by saying...You cheated Dylan, you straight up cheated the system. Taking 16 bean bags compared to the 8 every other group was allowed to take was a dirty CHEAT! This was a tough call for the officials to make...Well not really since the Lads are always the ones chirping other people so it felt kinda good to disqualify you Dylan :).
On the serious part of the response I agree with what everyone has stated. We should have spent more time planning the rules so that we weren't caught so off guard by some of the crazy ideas teams came up with. There's no way a team should have gotten 8 points for a lap when they stopped completely, and on purpose, every lap during the 'Rockin' Around' event. Other than rule making I think the events were quite good all together. They kept to the holiday spirit and gave teams some competitive fun before the Christmas break.
I also think using these games as a way to mark us is a great idea as was said before, You wouldn't be able to fully mark our leadership sitting at a desk.
- Brent
P.S. How's the shoulder feelin' Crawf? Hit that wall preeettttty hard.
I think the reindeer games went over pretty good this year I saw all of the groups except for the reindeer roundup /christmas tree one , and from what I saw they went pretty well. I think our obsticle course went over pretty well too , people seemed to enjoy it and I think we did a pretty good job enforcing the rules and fair play. So overall the games were a success, everyone chipped in and made it the success it was , I just wish there could have been a little bit more competition in the finals but oh well. Oh and I'm glad this is part of our exam because it exibits our own leadership skills as well as managment skills which is pretty much what the course is all about.
I think reindeer games went well, probably even better then last years. The events were well done and nothing really went wrong, there was a lot less "bending of the rules" than last year. I think my groups event, dont forget the jingles, went well except for some of the preperations were a little last minute but other than that and the announcing it mostly went pretty well. I also thought that having people from are class test out the events before hand was a really good idea because i bet if they had done that last year we wouldn't have been on a scouter hitting balls with a noodle. I thought it was pretty well organised, and I was impressed considering how Mr. Crawford kinda told us basically what it was then put it upon us to make sure it all went well. I think being marked on a process exam with an event as the product is a very good idea because it's probably the closest to a real life situation of having to plan an event and make sure it all goes smoothely, which is definetly harder than it looks.
I apologize for being late on the assignment. Lockivew dragons were just off winning hockey tournaments down in the states.
I thought the reindeer games went awesome. I felt my group all did a wonderful job before the event to ensure that all of the rules that could go wrong had a solution. Great job to all group hope everyone has a good christmas and a crazy new years.
The reindeer games were lots of fun! I thought all the groups worked really well together to form the big event and also worked well as individual groups to make the games successful. I think everyone (including participants and our class) had a great time taking part in the 2009 reindeer games. Being part of the organization of the games, i think was a good experience, i enjoyed it for the most part and look forward too see what people come up with for the 2010 reindeer games !!
The 2009 reindeer games went very well. I was impressed in how well everyone pulled together in the end to make the games successful. Combining everyones ideas can cause conflict but all the groups pulled through and led a very organized well week. Im glad I Got to be a part of this great experience. Also i loved doing the obstical coarse it was fun to interact with all the different gym classes. Congratulations everyone on a job well done!
I have to say they were pretty fun. Dont forget the jingles was the best game by far. Congrats to all the teams for putting together their games and making this years reindeer games a big success. luke
I think the reindeer games went very well this year. Our group (obstacle course) did a good job on listening to each other and trying out different ways to set up our course. But like everything in life, we ran into a few problems along the way, but we worked it all out. I didn't watch the games last year, but I'm sure we did better, cause we're awesome! :)
As for the whole exam thing, I think it's much better than a written exam because we're able to prove what we can do instead of just writing on paper like usual.
Over all we did a good job, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Excellent work peers! We all deserve a pat on the back!
Overall, the reindeer games were a huge success, even though two teams decided to skip an experience of a lifetime at the first event!!
It was great to see everyone competing for the first place position with everything they had… even the teachers, but better luck next year.....(Hope your shoulder is all right crawf!)
As for the planning aspect of the project, I would agree with most of the previous posts, everyone did a great job on their events, even with the "short" time limit. I could speak for my group, that everyone worked hard and gave great ideas. It was a bit rough at the start, but sticking together as a team turned out to be great with a perfect finished project!
The only suggestion that I can give for next year is to make sure you have no flaws in your rules for people to play with. Other than that, JUST HAVE FUN!
It is great that this was part of our exam because it can take away a lot of stress from many students, instead of writing a huge exam in one day in a classroom setting, like almost every other exam...... It is refreshing to have something different once in awhile! Thanks crawf!
heyy class Reindeer games was great this year!! i thought everyone was really invovled and all seemed to get excited when it to presenting. i thought for the most part that people work really well together and made a good efford on making there game as good as it can get.
